Globalization - vocabulary



Globalization - the increase of trade around the world, especially by large companies producing and trading goods in many different countries
To go into production - start the process of making or growing goods to be sold
manufacture - to make goods on a large scale using machinery
distribution of sth - the transport and supply of goods, etc to various people or places
national, multinational/global - (adj)involving several different countries, or (of a business) producing and selling goods in several different countries; relating to the whole world
to market - to advertise and offer sth for sale
competition - when s.o. is trying to win sth or be more successful than s.o. else

location - a place or position
location factors - a fact of a place or position which influences the result of something
to consider - to take sth in account, to make allowances; to look carefully at sb/sth
plant - the machinery, equipment, etc used in an industrial or manufacturing process; a piece of machinery or equipment; a place where an industrial or manufacturing process takes place, a factory
site/facility - a place where a building was, is or will be situated
suitable - acceptable or right for someone or something

to raise capital - to obtain money
to close down - the stopping of work
cheap labour - workers who earn less money
demand - the desire of customers for goods or services which they wish to buy or use
to supply - to provide enough of sth for a need
supply & demand - (economics) the amount of goods, etc available and the amount wanted by people. The relationship between these is often regarded as controlling economic activity or prices.
crucial - very important, esp for its effect on sth
to make s.o. redundant - to dismiss sth because he's no longer needed
to set s.o. free - to dismiss sb, to boot sb. out
resources - a supply of sth that a country, an organisation, or an individual has an can use, esp to increase wealth

principle - a guiding rule
foundation - the action of founding an institution, organization; an organization established by a company
to achieve - to succeed in reaching a particular goal
brand - a type of product manufactured by a particular company, a trade mark
to live up to s.o.'s expectation - be as good as sb. wants
deviation - difference from what is expected or acceptable
responsibility - duty to do/care for sth
associate - to connect s.o./sth in your mind with s.o./sth else
to achieve one's potential - s.o.\\\'s/sth\\\'s ability to develop, achieve or succeed
to break down diverse practicles -
aspiration - a strong desire or ambition
candor - the quality of being frank and honest in one's behaviour or speech
to promote - to give publicity to sth in order to sell it
mutuality - behaviour in which two people or groups of people give each other help and advantages
to endure - to suffer patiently sth that is painful or uncomfortable; to tolerate a person, an event, etc; to continue in existence, to last
benefit - the money given by the government to people who need financial help, for example because they cannot find a job; a helpful or good effect, or something intended to help
thriving,vital - to grow, develop or be successful; necessary for the success or continued existence of something; extremely important
retail and wholesale trade - the activity of selling goods to the public, usually in small quantities; the selling of goods in large amounts at low prices to shops and businesses
commitment - be willing to give a lot of time, work, energy, etc to sth
stockholder - a person or an organisation that owns stocks and shares
to reward - a thing that is given or received in return for doing sth good, working hard
efficiency - work well and without wasting time or resources; competent
to waste - to use more than is necessary, to use sth careless
to operate - to work, to function
stringent - (of financial conditions) difficult because there is not enough money
advertisement - a public notice offering or asking for goods, services, etc
logistics - the organisation of supplies and services for any complex operation
to dispel artificial barriers - to remove fears, doubts and false ideas, usually by proving them wrong or unnecessary
to shape - to decide or influence the form of something, especially a belief or idea, or someone\\\'s character
unique - unlike anything else, being the only one of its type; better or greater than any other
option - the power or freedom of choosing, choice
loan - a thing that is lent, esp a sum of money
to relinquish - to stop having, doing or claiming sth; to give sth up
to erode - to destroy sth or to wear sth away gradually

to opt - to decide to do sth, to choose
commodity - an article of trade, a product that is bought and sold, esp between countries
to aggravate - to make a situation worse or more serious; to irritate sb, to annoy sb
substistence work - producing enough food or earning enough money to keep yourself alive
IMF, World Bank - an international organization which was formed in 1945 to help economic development, especially of poorer countries
bonanza - sth that is prospering greatly, a situation or event which creates a sudden increase in wealth, luck or profits
to substitute - to take the place of sth or sb, to put or use sb/sth instead of sb/sth else
ballot - the system of secret voting; piece of paper used in secret voting
deliberation - careful consideration and discussion,debate
annihilation - complete destruction
"melt-down" - the accidental melting of the central part of a nuclear reactor
regulation - usual; ordered by the rules
deregulation - to remove national or local government controls or rules from a business or other activity
birth-/deathrate - a measurement of the number of babies born/ people died in a particular period
life expectancy - the number of years that someone is likely to live
ethnic groups - a national or racial group of people
indigenous - naturally existing in a place or country rather than arriving from another place
literacy rate - a measurement of the number of the ability to read and write; knowledge of a particular subject, or a particular type of knowledge
to merge - to combine or join together, or to cause things to do this
recent - happening or starting from a short time ago
to gain independence - to obtain not to be ruled/governed/dominated by sb
to suspend sth - to cause to be not active, either temporarily or permanently
constitution - (a written document which forms) the set of political principles by which a state or organization is governed, especially in relation to the rights of the people it governs; how something is formed from different parts
to rank behind s.o./sth - to be not as fast/good as s.o./sth else
