Working conditions and unemployment in south africa

Working conditions 1:General information In South Africa the majority of the population works without regular working conditions and gets a miserable income. The unemployment rate is high. Many people have several casual jobs. After the installation of the minimum wage, many people got unemployed. 2:Labour law The south african labour law went through a fundamental change, so the employers and employees got a legal substantiation. The rights involve a minimum wage, protection against wrongful dismissal and a safe workplace in case of pregnancy or sickness.

Holiday and hours¡¥ overtime must be payed off by the employer. The maximum time of working is 45 hours in a week. There is no compulsory health insurance. 3:Discrimination Discrimination is a big problem in south africa, since there are no contracts of employment, no steady paying off, no social welfare benefits and very bad working conditions especially for the blacks. Because the blacks don`t know their rights, they can`t put them through in front of the employer. There are several projects which support the blacks to help them to get a better working life.

Unemployment The unemployment rate is 25,5 percent in South Africa. From these 25,5 percent are 7 million permanently unemployed which partly never had a job. The majority of the unemployed people is black. The plurality of these unemployed blacks don¡¦t have a graduation or a social-political coverage. 70 percent of all under 20years teens are unemployed. Just 2 percent of the white population in South Africa don¡¦t have a job.

In comparision to the white, there are 45 percent of the blacks, which are jobless. Even though there was a postive economic growth in the end of the 90¡¥s the unemployment rate is still growing under the black because of the increase in population. But the level of education increased in the last years, so that there is an intense expanding of a black middle class which is very solvent. The soccer world cup 2010 is settled in South Africa. Through that many business analyst expect a great number of new jobs, so that the unemployment rate will decrease.
