The continuation of the book - the pearl by john steinbeck

.....Kino and Juana walked through the whole night. After a few hours the moon disappeared and the sun came higher, so they went into a deep forest to walk there while the sun shone. Suddenly, they heard a strange noise which came closer and closer. They became nervous and ran along the little path. After a while they saw a small hole. They went in and hid themselves. A few seconds ago a big cart rolled past them. They still sat in this hole. They had luck that they didn't saw Kino and Juana. Now they listened if there came ones more. There was no noise and they went out of this ugly hole and continued their trip.

When they walked the half day, they get very hungry and searched for something to eat. In front of them stood such a big tree with big fruits, which was higher than 100 metres. They rashly stormed at the tree and ate the fruits. After a few minutes it was over. The fruits of the tree were poisonous and Kino and Juana fell into a deep sleep. Coyotito began to cry but no body heard it. In the setting sun Coyotito stopped crying because he saw a big shadow which came nearer. And "bush" he couldn't saw anything.

When the day and the night were gone Juana awakened and what she saw was nothing. She felt with her hands over her eyes and took a scarf from her eyes. Now she could saw everything normal. She stood up and shouted "Kino, Coyotito where are you?" No answer, nothing, till she heard a very softly voice, which said "keep cool lady! Everything is all right. Kino and Coyotito are sleeping. Come we will drink and eat something." It was an old lady; she looked friendly but very dirty. "I live here in the forest that's my life. I've found you and now I took you with my cart in my house," said the old women. When Juana and the old women made some tea and biscuits, Kino and Coyotito came in the living-room and were very absent-minded, but Juana said that everything is all right.

The three ate together and told the woman why they're here and what they wanted to do. When they finished eating they went on. Now it was evening, but they wanted to walk further. When it was very dark they heard some people. They jumped into a bush and listened to the people. They heard that they talked about them, they searched Kino and Juana. At the end of the group they saw the old women. Now they knew that they were fooled by her. When the group was past them, Kino and Juana came out of the bush and thought about what they could do. "Shall we walk behind them or shall we take another way?" Kino asked. "I think we should walk behind them, to listen up what they're talking," said Juana.

They walked from dawn to dusk behind the group till the people stopped and went sleeping. Kino, Juana and Coyotito went on quietly to search for a good place to sleep.

The next day, they saw the footprints from the group and Kino and Juana followed them. During the day, Coyotito began to cry and he was very hot. Perhaps it was the sun which shone across the trees or Coyotito had fever.

Juana gets a nervous breakdown because she couldn't hold out all the trouble. Kino pulled Juana and Coyotito into bushes and searched for some water.

He found a source and cut a peace of his trousers which were made by leader, to fill in the water. Then he ran back to Juana and Coyotito and covered them with the water. Juana woke up and Coyotito became a bit colder.

They walked the rest of the day and in the afternoon; they stood in front of a big town. At first they went to the tourist information to ask where they could find a shop to sell their pearl. Instantly they went to the shop but in front of it, stood the group of people they saw in the forest, and caught them. They sent them into a prison. "What shall we do?" asked Kino. "I think we have to break out, no matter how! We could brake out the rods because they're very rusty and then jump down! It's not so high," replied Juana. "Yes we will do it, let's take our knife and file it off," said Kino.

When it was late, they broke out and hid them under a bridge. When the night was gone, they went to the shop again. Now the special moment came. "Good morning Sir. We've got a wonderful pearl here. Can you give us a declaration of value?" asked Kino to the assistant. "Good morning. Yes, let me see the pearl. Oh, I don't really know, it's difficult to say. I don't know, but tell me in which conditions do you live?" asked the assistant. "At the moment we have nothing, no house, no money, no clothes and no friends," answered Juana. "So, we will see, wait a moment please." After a few minutes the assistant returned. "Good, I will give you 30000 pesos! But I will not say why I give you such a high sum," said the assistant. "Ok. Can we have the money immediately?" asked Kino. "Yes, here you have your money. Now you can buy a new house. I wish you much luck!" replied the assistant.

"Thank you very, very much. Bye, bye," Said Juana with a big smile on her face.
