Dritte welt länder

Today we will tell you something about the third world. Once a wise man said:¡§ If you have something to eat in your frig, clothes to put on, a bed to sleep and a roof over your head, you will be richer than 75 % of the world¡¦s population. Can you blieve that? Yes, it is rearly true. A big part of the world is very poor.

(Folie 1)
The green lands are the poor lands and only the red ones are the rich countries. So you can see: Much more lands are poor!

How can you find out, that it is a poor land?
"X Developing nations are poor lands. The people, who live there, are not able to help themselves.
"X Nearly every developing nation is in Africa, South America and Asia. There are big cities, which grow up bigger and bigger. Why?
"X Many people, who live in the outskirts of a town don¡¦t have a work. So they go into the towns ¡V because they hope, they will find work there, to earn money for their families and to have a better life.
"X But only a small part of all people find work. Most of them live in slums for their whole life. The slums are mostly bad places. These districts of a town are often very dirty. People have bad lodings, children don¡¦t go to school, they have bad meals - often they are begging. But always more and more people come.

Some Slums can be repaired with the support of the government: Sreets and sewages are built, fountains are dashed. But it is still hard to live there.

Now we want to tell you about a few Third World towns!

One of them is Bombay: Life on the road!

(Folie 2)
The biggest town of India has a population of more than 12 million people, a very big part of them live in the slums, at the outskirts and along the big roads.
In the city centre there are many people. Hundredthousends of them are unsheltered. They have only a small room, where they can sleep. When it rains,- and it is often raining - they stand under eaves. Regulary work is very seldom. Many of them try to get money with odd jobs. With that money they can live, but it is to less money, to build a house. The most of them can¡¦t write and read.

Another Third World town is Cairo, the capital of Egypt. Kairo is the biggest city of Africa. 100 years ago it had a population about less than 1 Million people. Now there is a population of 13 Million people.
When the population grew up, many problems grew up too. The supply and the disposal gets more and more difficult.

(Folie 3)
In Cairo ¡V like in other big cities of poor lands too ¡V many people look for rubbish of the rich people, which they bring to the rubbish colony. On this incinerator most live more than 20 000 people. The people search after things, which are recyclable. The rubbish they didn¡¦t need, gets burn.
That makes the air worse than it is yet.

Lima, the capital of Peru also is a third world city. Million of people live in slums at the outskirts.
(Folie 4)
Each useful material is used on the building of the cottages: wood, cardboard, rag and sheet metal.
Most there is only one room, where the whole family must live. Only rarely, it gives current. clearly water and toilets are very rarely.
Dirty water and too much rubbish, can lead to illnesses. Help is too expensive.
Many people die as children and the life expectancy is lower than in other lands.
Also in Lima few people find a job and if they find one only for hours or days. The rewards are very small.
(Folie 5)
Because the most people have lack of money, the children can¡¦t go to school. Most of them are not able to write a letter or read an article.
The families send their children to the cities to earn money. Six year old children sell things or go begging.
Most of the teenagers steal things of rich people, because the need money for their younger brothers and sisters.
(Folie 6)
Most of the poor people, who has nothing, still are happy with the few things they have. They laugh and play together and they often have a nice time.
We could take those people as an example for us. We also should be happy too, when we don¡¦t get all the things we want.

Austria is a very rich country and we should be happy, that we live somewhere, where we can go to school and that we needn¡¦t have to live on the street.
