I) Die Steigerungsformen des Adjektivs 1) Germanische Steigerung (-er than / the -est) bei: - einsilbigen Adjektiven - great, greater than, the greatest - zweisilbigen Adjektiven auf -y - easy, easier than, the easiest - zweisilbigen Adjektiven auf -le - able, abler than, the ablest - zweisilbigen Adjektiven auf -ow - narrow, narrower than, the narrowest 2) Romanische Steigerung (more - than, the most -) bei: - mehr als zweisilbigen Adjektiven: - difficult, more difficult than, the most difficult - zweisilbigen Adjektiven, die auf der ersten Silbe betont werden: - modern, more modern than, the most modern - aus Partizipien entstandenen Adjektiven: - interesting, more interesting than, the most interesting - abgeleiteten Adjektiven auf -ly: - friendly, more friendly than, the most friendly 3) Unregelmäßige Steigerung: good, better than, the best bad, worse than, the worst much / many, more than, the most little, less than, the least (wenig, gering) smaller than, the smallest (klein) near, nearer than, the nearest (räumlich) the next (Reihenfolge) old, older than, the oldest elder than, the eldest (bei Familienmitgliedern) far, further than, the furthest (bildlich) farther than, the farthest (räumlich) later, later than, the latest (zeitliches Verhältnis) latter than, the last (Reihenfolge) II) Gebrauch der Steigerungsformen im Vergleich as ... as - He is as tall as his brother. taller / more cautious than - He is taler / more cautious than his brother.

III) SUBSTANTIVIERUNG von ADJEKTIVEN: the + Adjektiv, wenn die Gesamtheit gemeint ist. - the blind (die Blinden) / the blind man the + Nationalitätenbezeichnung - the English / the English girl auf -\"sh\" und -\"(t)ch\" - the Dutch / the Dutch capital IV) STÜTZWORD: one / ones Um die Wiederholung eines zählbaren - This book is nicer than that one.
